Grain is a film photography roll tracker app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

2. What Data We Collect

Guest, free-tier, and signed-out Pro users

Guest and free-tier users store roll and shot data locally on their device using AsyncStorage. If you buy Grain Pro without signing in, your roll and shot data, attached scans, and location tags still stay on your device unless you later sign in and enable cloud sync. Grain uses RevenueCat to verify your anonymous Pro entitlement and unlock Pro features, but your app data is not sent to our sync servers while you remain signed out.

If you sign in but do not have Pro, Grain may use your account only for authentication, subscription restoration, and account management. If you send feedback while signed in, Grain stores your message and user ID so we can understand and respond to support issues.

Signed-in Pro users

Account information: Your email address and display name, obtained when you sign in with Google or Apple.
Roll & shot metadata: Film stock, camera, format, ISO, frames, status, labels, groups, notes, aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, conditions, dates, and any other roll or shot details you enter.
Location tags: If you choose to tag a shot, we store the GPS latitude/longitude and a human-readable place name (for example, "Hyde Park, London"). Location access is requested on-demand and only when you use location features — never in the background.
Attached scans: Film scan images you attach to shots are uploaded to our cloud storage for sync. You control which shots have photos attached.
Purchase information: Your subscription status is managed by RevenueCat. Grain receives entitlement status and related subscription identifiers so it can unlock Pro features, but not your full payment details.
Feedback: If you send feedback from Settings, we store your message and, when signed in, your user ID so we can understand and respond to support issues.

3. How We Use Your Data

To unlock Pro features and verify subscription status, including for signed-out Pro users.
To sync your roll and shot metadata across your devices (signed-in Pro users).
To display and sync attached scan photos in the app (signed-in Pro users).
To provide map and stats features (Pro users).
To process your subscription via RevenueCat.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

Supabase — Our backend database and file storage provider. Data is stored in the EU region. Supabase Privacy Policy.
RevenueCat — Manages in-app purchases and subscription status. RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
Google Sign-In — Used for authentication. We only request your email and name. Google Privacy Policy.
Apple Sign-In — Used for authentication on iOS. Apple Privacy Policy.
Geoapify — Used for place-name search and autocomplete within the location picker. Queries contain only the text you type, not your GPS location. Geoapify Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

Your cloud data is retained for as long as your account is active. If your signed-in Pro subscription lapses, Grain attempts to migrate your roll and shot metadata back to your device and remove synced database rows according to the app's lapse flow. Attached scan photos that were synced to our servers may remain there for a 30-day grace period so you can resubscribe and keep them; after that grace period, they are deleted. If you delete your account from Settings, Grain deletes your account and associated cloud data, including stored photos, and clears local Grain data on that device.

Free-tier and signed-out Pro users store app data locally on their device. If you bought Pro without signing in, attached scans are local only, so Grain does not have cloud photo copies to delete after a subscription lapse. Uninstalling the app removes locally stored data.

6. Your Rights

Access: Your data is visible directly in the app.
Deletion: Signed-in users can use Settings → Delete Account to delete their Grain account and associated cloud data. You can also email us at grainfilmapp@gmail.com to request deletion or get help if the in-app deletion flow fails.
Portability: Pro users can export all roll and shot data as CSV from the Archive → Stats screen.

7. Children's Privacy

Grain is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
